  • Look Inside

This paper is the presentation of two cases of sur-gically removed tumors of the septum pellucidum.

Case 1. A 20-year-old woman was admitted to our clinic with the complaints of nausea, headache, visual disturbance for three months.

Examination revealed choked disks, left abducens paresis and abnormal E.E.G. Pneumoventriculography showed a filling defect between the bodies of the dilated lateral ventricles. Tumor of the septum pelluci-dum was suspected. The right frontal craniotomy was made and the tumor of the septum pellucidum was removed. The pathological diagnosis was Grade I astrocytoma.

Case 2. A 37-year-old man was admitted to our clinic, complaining of headache, visual disturbance, impaired hearing and attacks of syncope for eight months. The patient was apathetic and examinations revealed bilateral choked disks, hypasthesia of the left half of the body and disturbances of memory and calculation. Pneumoventriculography showed separated bilateral lateral ventricles where the tumor stain was found by carotid angiography. The tumor weighing 87 grm. was totally removed. The pathological diag-nosis was Grade III astrocytoma.

At present, about one year after in the first case and about five months after the operation in the second case, there is no evidence of recurrence.

The review of the literature, and also syndrome, diagnosis and therapy of these two cases were discu-ssed.
