  • Look Inside

Studies were made about Metrazol thres-hold value to determinthe average threshold value or mean quantities required to produce epileptic abnormal EEG sign inepileptic pa-tients and in normal control groupe.

In order to determine their Metrazol thre-shold values precisely, 10% solution of Metra-zol was administered by continuous intrave-nous injection at the rate of 1cc per min. until the appearance of diagnostic apprecia-tive epileptic abnomal EEG or until about 10 mg/kg Metrazol has been given. None of them had abnormal record in preactivation EEG

In previous papers reported by other au-thors, the control subjects to the epileptics included nonebileptic psychotics such as ma-nic depressives and schizophrenics, and very little was treated upon normal healthy per-sons. But in our experiences, the Metrazol threshold value of schizophrenics, or manic depressives also, seemed to be higher than that of normal persons. In this respect, our choice of control group was based not only on the standard of nonepileptics but also on that of nonpsychotics.

Comparison of the threshold value for epi-leptics and normal control group indicated that the differences were significantly.
