  • Look Inside

The data was collected prior to the depar-ture of Prof. Katsura to Germany and Ame-rica by sending a brief quessionaire on brain tumors which were confirmed either historo-gically by operation or autopsy to the major surgical clinics in Japan. The surgical clinics in 21 universities and 2 general hospitals could be responded to the questionaire. This statis-tics was based on these reports, and the total number of brain tumors included in this sta-tistics was 3312. The incidence of brain tu-mors was not different from that by grant, Olivecrona or Cushing. However, Pinealoma in Japan was found much higher than that in America or Europe. The incidence of Pinea-loma among gliomas in Japan was nearly 9 ti-mes higher than that in America or Europe. Such high incidence may be difference of ra-ces. Of 106 tumors in the pineal region, 77 cases were pinealoma, 7 cases pineoblastoma, 18 cases teratoma and 4 cases miscellaneous. Besides, 9 cases of ectopic pinealoma were re-corded.
