  • Look Inside

For the purpose of studying on the par-kinsonian syndrome which happened to be found during the treatment of mental pa-tients with chlorpromazine and reserpine, an electromyographic study has been made in 10 patients, whose psychic symptoms were improved when these medications had been over.

The results obtained were summarized as follows; 1. No spontaneous discharges were seen on both upper and lower extremities at rest in these cases, whereas increased spike discharges were manifested at slow pas- sive stretching position in 6 of 10 cases, and at voluntary contraction it tended to show interference voltage.

2. The wave forms were within the limits of whether normal NMU voltage or grou- ping voltage. However, this grouping voltage as a rule, which found in upper extremities of 3 cases and in lower extremities of 7 cases, was unstable and immature, although 5 cases of them in lower extremities showed a regular form to some degree.

3. Spontaneous discharges in m. tibialis anterior were found 2 of 10 cases at stand- ing position.

4. Interval diagram had a tendency of wide fluctuation in both irregular fluctuation and slow undulation.
