  • Look Inside

A farmer aged 26 with an occipital midline meningioma (angioblastic type) involving the longitudinal sinus was operated on and the tumor inclusive posterior half of longitudinal sinus and a part of falx cerebri was completely exstirpated. The postoperative course was uneventful. The tumor (10×6×7cm) weighed a little over 200 gram. It had developed between both occipital lobes, invading the covering dura, the posterior half of longitudinal sinus, supratentorial part of falx and a part of occipital bone. Histologically examined, the resected part of the sinus was almost occluded or tumorized. Instead of the invaded, sinus longitudinalis there was seen many compensa-tory collateral veins in falx and tentorium. Con-linens sinumn and sinus rectus were intact. During the operation 2300 c.c. blood was transfused of which 300 c.c. having been taken from the patient's own hemorrhage blood and from another part of the hemorrhage blood was made autofibrinfoam which served very effective as a hemostyptic living tampon, being applied to the bleeding points.
