Restless legs syndrome(RLS)is a neurological disorder characterized by an irresistible urge to move the legs in order to stop unpleasant sensations in the legs during the night. This disorder is often misdiagnosed as major depression or somatoform disorder because of its diverse symptoms, such as pain and depressed mood. It is important to diagnose RLS properly because antidepressants often exacerbate the symptoms of this disorder. We treated a case of RLS, in which the chief complaint of anal pain was presented in adjunction to depressive affect. The course of this case appears to indicate that combined use of a dopamine agonist and benzodiazepine anxiolytic, but not antidepressants, can be helpful in treating cases of RLS with psychiatric symptoms such as anxiety or depressive affect.
