名称と大まかな概念
ACTはassertive community treatmentの略称である。これまで訳語はさまざまで，積極的地域(あるいはコミュニティ)治療(あるいはマネジメント)，強力地域療法，訪問型地域ケアシステムなどと訳されてきた。最近では包括型地域生活支援プログラムの名称が最もよく用いられている。また，単にACTあるいはアクトの名称も用いられる。
ACTには辞書的な定義はないが，次のような特徴を有することでは共通理解がある。
