  • Look Inside

Peak Reynolds number, Womersley parameter, Strouhal's number and peak velocity in the aortic root were obtained in 46 patients (pts) with con-genital heart disease. The blood flow in the aortic root was measured using an electromagnetic flowmeter during open heart surgery.

The subjects consisted of 25 pts with tetralogy of Fallot (T/F), 15 pts with pulmonary stenosis (PS) and 6 pts with other diseases. The diameter of the aortic root averaged 1.5±0.2 cm, the age 5.3±2.1 yrs and the body weight 17.5±5.7 kg. The blood viscosity averaged 0.026±0.003 g/cm・sec when the value of blood density was assumed to be 1.050 g/cm3.
