  • Look Inside

The normal values of ventilatory functions were indicated through the results obtained from the pulmonary function tests carried out as the medical checkup program at Keio University Hospital.

One thousand eight hundred and thirty nine male adults ranging from 22 to 83 years of age, who revealed neither obvious complaints nor abnormal physical findings, were included.

Correlation coefficients based on the valia-bles measured were constructed.

Fractional lung volumes and ventilatory capacities were studied. The parameters on any particular age group demonstrated normal distribution. The mean values, the standard deviations and the 5% rejection limits, as for the diagnostic normal limits, by every ten-year age group were calculated for each measurement.

The regression equations for the ventilatory functions were constructed upon age and height.

2) Out of 1,839 males, 594 subjects without impaired ventilatory functions were picked up.

The mean values and the standard devia-tions by every ten-year age group were cal-culated for each measurement and the reg-ression equations were constructed.

3) These indivisual variations in ventila-tory measurements were analysed with rela-tion to age, obesity, smoking habits, cough, sputum, season, and the type of respirometer.
