The occurrence of lymph node metastasis and metachronous carcinogenesis needs to be carefully monitored following endoscopic resection of pharyngeal cancers. Complete consensus regarding lymph node metastasis remains unestablished, and accumulating more cases is necessary. However, currently, tumor thickness and vascular invasion are considered important factors. Furthermore, pharyngeal cancer demonstrated a high incidence of metachronous cancer ; thus, an endoscopic examination should be performed appropriately. Detecting pharyngeal cancer at an early stage is possible by performing endoscopic examinations approximately twice annually, and the prognosis of patients following endoscopic resection is extremely good. Risk stratification and appropriate surveillance with defined protocols are crucial following endoscopic treatment for pharyngeal cancer.
