 White light imaging and IEE(image enhanced endoscopy)are useful tools for the diagnosis of ulcerative colitis and the evaluation of its disease activity. AFI(autofluorescence imaging)and magnifying colonoscopy are one of the major IEE methods. AFI captures the fluorescence emitted from intestinal tissues and quantifies the intensity. Minute structures of the intestinal surface can be observed using magnifying colonoscopy. These IEE findings, which correlate to the histological severity of mucosal inflammation, enable clinicians in assessing mucosal healing, selecting appropriate treatments, and achieving long-term remission.
