Abstract Purpose:We compared the reading performance of LENTIS Comfort and monofocal intraocular lenses(IOLs) using the Minnesota Reading Test(MNREAD).

Methods:This retrospective observational study included 33 eyes utilizing LENTIS® Comfort(LC group) and 18 eyes utilizing monofocal IOLs(Clareon group). Reading function was evaluated using the Japanese version of the MNREAD 1 month postoperatively. Primary outcome measures were maximum reading speed(MRS), critical print size(CPS), area under the curve(AUC), smallest readable print size(SRPS), and reading speed sustainability(RSS).

Results:The LC group showed significantly superior results compared to the Clareon group in AUC(298.49±73.49 vs. 222.97±44.11, p<0.001), CPS(0.98±0.20 vs. 1.16±0.15 logMAR, p=0.004), and RSS(0.34±0.20 vs. 0.13±0.07, p<0.001). No significant differences were found in MRS(345.99±55.84 vs. 323.52±34.21 wpm, p=0.091) and SRPS(0.23±0.17 vs. 0.29±0.24 logMAR, p=0.634).

Conclusions:LENTIS® Comfort provided superior reading performance compared to monofocal IOLs in reading range, critical print size, and reading speed sustainability for small print sizes.
