Aim: To identify various aspects of anxiety experienced by first-time expectant fathers.

Methods: Online interviews were conducted between March and May 2023 with seven expectant fathers whose partners expected their first child. The interviews were transcribed verbatim and subjected to qualitative descriptive analysis.

Results: All participants were in their 30s. In terms of occupation, six were full-time company employees and one was a sole proprietor. During the interviews, the partners' gestational weeks ranged from 22 to 31 among the seven participants. The anxieties of first-time fathers were categorized into seven themes: "anxiety about their ability to fulfill their role as a father," "anxiety about rebuilding relationships with their partner and parents," "anxiety about financial instability," "anxiety about the course of their partner's pregnancy and childbirth," "anxiety about not being able to form a community with other fathers," "anxiety about not receiving enough support from healthcare professionals," and "anxiety about the process of arranging for paternity leave."

Conclusions: The anxieties of first-time expectant fathers were categorized into seven distinct themes. This highlights the need for tailored support to address these concerns.
