現在陽子線治療は我が国で19施設，全世界では100を超える施設で行われており^1），特に2015年ごろから増加傾向が目立っている（図1）。我が国においては2016年に小児腫瘍が保険適用されたのを皮切りに，2018年には前立腺癌などに保険適用の範囲が広がり，2022年からは4cm以上の肝細胞癌なども健康保険での診療が可能となっており（表1），全国的に治療患者数が増加傾向にあるものと思われる。

Proton therapy is on the rise worldwide. The number of diseases covered by health insurance in Japan is also increasing. The number of patients is increasing in many facilities in Japan. Until now, several diseases covered by insurance have been rare diseases. It is expected that more diseases will be covered by insurance in the future.
