【abstract】

The objectives of this study were to clarify the relationship between behavior in daily life and the mental health of workers, and to obtain the daily behavior style that is efficient for maintenance and promotion of mental health. Mental health was assessed by the Profile of Mood States(POMS)test. Behavior in daily life was surveyed in five the domains of family, behavior of daily life ,occupation, leisure time, exercises, and trouble suffered from in the previous week. The subjects were 115 male and 71 female workers aged 20 and over.

The interrelation of survey items with each of the six scores of the POMS scale were evaluated by variance analysis for each of the six scales, respectively. The item categories were compared using each of the means of six POMS scales by t-test. After that, in order to investigate the degree of contribution of the behavior domain of daily life to mental health, multiple correlation of the behavior domain with each of the six POMS scales was calculated in both sexes, respectively.

As a result, it could be inferred that mental health is especially affected by occupation in men, and behavior of daily life in women, although most of the behavior domains showed significant correlation with mental health in both sexes. The behavior domains that showed the most relevance were: appetite and mental health, ease in falling asleep and little or no mental fatigue, good awakening and vigor(men), good awakening and little or no anger/confusion(women), mental stimulation at work and mental health(women), human relations at work and mental health, mental stimulation when engaging in hobby and little or no depression(women), and trouble with self, family, or work and mental health.
