透析患者の増加・高齢化に伴い，ICU入室を要する透析患者は今後さらに増加することが予想される。ICU入室を要する透析患者の予後は，透析患者であることそのものよりも併存疾患や重症度に関連しており，単に「透析患者だから」という理由だけで治療を制限されるべきではない。透析患者の自然歴や予後を理解したうえで，ICUでは腎臓内科医，集中治療医など，それぞれの強みを活かした学際的なアプローチが必要である。

As the number of patients undergoing dialysis increases and the population ages, the number of patients requiring ICU admission is also expected to increase. The prognosis of patients requiring ICU admission is related to comorbidities and severity of illness, rather than the fact that they are undergoing dialysis. Therefore, treatment should not be withheld simply because they are undergoing dialysis. In the ICU, after understanding the natural history and prognosis of patients undergoing dialysis, nephrologists, intensivists, and others require an interdisciplinary approach by taking advantage of their strengths.
