　Ⅰ．緒言

　横紋筋肉腫は中胚葉からの分化段階で未熟な胎児性横紋筋肉腫と，成熟型横紋筋肉腫があり，いずれも悪性度の高いものであるが，両者には形態学的なもの以外に多少異なつた性質を有する傾向がある。胎児性横紋筋肉腫の場合，頭頸部をふくめたすべての臓器に発生したという報告があるが，成熟型のものでは主として四肢，躯幹に多く，頭頸部の発生頻度は非常に低いのもその特色といえる。

　われわれは，成熟型横紋筋肉腫が下顎部に発生し，長い経過をとつた後，肺転移による呼吸、循環障害と，悪液質のために死亡した33歳男子の剖検例を経験したので，二，三の文献的考察を加えて報告する。

　A man, aged 33, complained of swelling of the left lower jaw with bleeding from this swollen area. Several surgical removal of the tumor was attended by recurrences. Microscopic examination of the tumor revealed pleomorphic rhabdomyosarcoma of undifferentiated adult type. The neoplasm was characterized by rapid growth from early in its onset with no apparent response to irradiation treatments.

　At the initial operation a solitary mass was discovered in the soft palate and the sternocleidomastoid muscle. Eighteen months after the onset the patient died of lung metastasis but metastasis elsewhere including the systemic lymph nodes was found to be negative.
