　臭いの表現は極めて困難である。其の理由は臭いには基準となるものが明らかでないからである。

　色彩の場合には赤，青，紫，黄等と色其のものがはつきり表わすものがあり，又味は甘，酸，苦塩等の基準になる質があり，其等が互に相依り相輔けて，多種多様の色彩或は味わいを形成するものである。

On the problem of classification of the sense of smell, the authors state, the descri-ption and expression of smell should be ma-de in three-demensional terms instead of that on a plane ; when the clement of smell is increased basically the peak of increment should be considered as the surface of a sp-here and the degree and the character of that increment should be represented by the radius of the sphere running from the center to its surface.
