鼻中隔の整形手術に際し我々臨床醫が最も困難を感じ，且つ失敗し易い部位は鼻中隔突起である。この厄介な鼻中隔突起の成立部位に就いては略々諸家の意見が一致しているが尚その成因に就いては定説を得ない現状である。
高橋氏の本問題に關しての發表のうち最近の比較解剖學的研究の論文は私にとつて誠に感銘深く感ぜられた。私は興味は持つているが特別に本問題に關して研究を續けている者でない事を先ずお斷りして置く。
SHIBATA investigated the cause for the presence of proturberances in the nasal septum, particularly the spicules, by making a study of comparative anatomy of nasal septum among other mammalian animals. His conclusions are as follows: (1) Os vomeris in mammalian other than man is composed of three parts: the body pro-per, horizontal ridge and superior plate.
(2) Ala vomeris in man may be considered as a counterpart of the horizontal ridge.
(3) The origin of spicular formation of nasal septum in man is traceable as a remnant to that horizontal ridge.
