　一般に耳鼻科に於ては呼吸困難即氣管切開と考え勝ちであるが，此呼吸困難にも種類，程度等多岐に互り，或は氣管切開を無意味に，或はなすべきでないのに行つたりする場合のある事を考えれば．一應之について全般の概念を把握し，充分適否を機に臨み選定し得る丈の判斷力を持つべきは耳鼻科醫として肝要な點である。故に呼吸困難につき系統的に述べ諸賢の御批判を仰がんとする次第である。

IWATA emphasizes the importance of giving a complete examination to patients who com-plain of dyspnea in order to determine the type with which they are affected. The diagnosis of this condition may be made only when a careful history of beginning symptoms are obtained. Which is followed by noting the condition the patient may be affected with, with proper examination of the essential parts that are concerned. It may include X-ray examination as well as laryngo―and/or bron-choscopy.
