はしがき
口蓋披裂とは先天的又は後天的原因によつて，硬口蓋軟口蓋或は口蓋垂等の実質欠損を来し，その結果鼻腔と口腔との間に非生理的交通を有する状態を云ひ，そのために乳児の哺乳の困難，咀嚼及び嚥下の障碍，発音障碍及び鼻疾患に罹病し易い等の種々の影響を考へさせられる．
口蓋の被裂には先天的のものと後天的のものとが考へられるが先天的のものは，完全披裂と，不完全披裂に分たれ，後者は更に口蓋垂のみの破裂，口蓋垂と軟口蓋の一部を含むもの，口蓋垂軟口蓋及び硬口蓋の一部又は大部を含むもの等があり，後天性のものは硬口蓋穿孔及び軟口蓋穿孔に分たれる．
OKUYA reports two cases of cleft palate successfully treated by use of prosthesis. In both cases the attempts at surgical correction in early years of patients life had failed. The first case, a man aged 21, by use of prosthesis and speech training thereafter showed marked improvement that he was able to convey an intelligible telephone conversation. The second case, a man aged 19, likewise made a marked improvement of his speech.
