  • Look Inside

The Horsley-Clarke apparatus, though it has done a great deal in experimental neurology, is too heavy in weight and too complicated in handling and not fitted for experiments on small animals or sceing acute phenomena resulting from the opera-tion.

The Hess or Kurotu's apparatus is of more simple construction and not heavy, but not very appropriate for stimulating or destructing several points at one installation.

Our new apparatus aims to improve these two methods. It consists of a board to be fixed on the skull, an idea adopted from Hess; on this board two other boards slide horizontally one above another in four directions (our improvement) and a vertical cylinder is attached to one of the boards. We can reach any point in the brain moviog the boards horizontally and the cylinder vertically by reading graduation.

Many times we have got with this apparatus good results on the rabbits and also Dr. Sasa's clinic (Tokyo university) has reported us very satisfactory data, using this apparatus.

Though we have hitherto used this apparatus only on rabbits, it can be applied to other animals if mocified in size.
