連合野の成り立ち

Some aspects of the phylogeny and the ontogeny of the association cortex

　"連合領"は，髄鞘発生の時期によって区分けされた皮質領域に対するFlechsigの命名に由来する^10,11）。生後2か月以降に髄鞘形成の始まる終域"Terminalegebiete"と，これを取り囲む，生後6週までに髄鞘形成の終わる中間域"Intermediärgebiete"は，彼によって，それぞれ連合中枢の「中心部」および「辺縁帯」Randzoneと呼ばれたが，彼の示したこの皮質野の広がりは，今日，機能的に「連合領」とされる皮質野とほぼ一致する。この点では，髄鞘発生から定義された「連合皮質」は，結果的に正しかったことになり，さらにFlechsigがこの皮質野に帰した，Associationszentren，geistige Zentren，Cogitations-od. Denkorganなどの言葉が物語る"高等な機能"の，系統発生的な，また個体発生のうえからの，成立の遅さと，一側面であるとはいえ形態学的な完成の遅れ，とは，一見きわめて明快な対応を示すものとして受け取られることになった。しかし，当時から，彼の「髄鞘発生」に関する論考については，後述するようないくつかの問題点が指摘されており，とくにVogtらは，彼の観察所見の不明確さや，髄鞘発生の意味づけの誤りなどについて繰り返し手厳しく批判，論駁した^29〜31）。

　Through reviewing phylogenetic and ontogenetic aspects of so-called association area, the followings were pointed out.

　1. Association cortex can be said to be on the continuous line of the architectonic evolution of the neocortex from its very origin as the general cortex in the reptilian brains. The phylogenetic and ontogenetic processes of the neocortex can be traced in the mature brain as the architectonic gradients from the periallocortex to the core of superdifferentiation in the midst of the association cortex.
