Corticocortical fiber connections of the "association" areas. Comparison of the fiber connections of cats with those of monkeys with comments on the development of the "association" cortex

I．はじめに

　皮質連合領という言葉は現在，厳密な意味ではいわば共通の定義なしに用いられている。神経科学には種々の側面があり，各分野で得られた研究成果をもとにある程度の総合的な規定もできよう。学問は，その時代がもつ制約内で，"意味論"に流れることのない言葉の定義を要求する。これに答えることは研究者の務めでもあり，同時に，実際的な意味も否定できない。この特集号で他の執筆者たちにより発生学，皮質下結合，生理学，行動学などそれぞれの立場から考察が加えられるので，私は多少あいまいであっても，ひとまず"皮質連合野"を「大脳皮質のうちで，"第一次"感覚野と運動野を除いた新皮質の領域」と考えておくことにする。

Patterns of organization of association fibers of the "association" cortex in cats and rhesus mon-keys are discussed and compared. The data presented in this review are obtained from recent experimental observations in the cat and the monkey, mainly by means of the Nauta and the Fink and Heimer techniques.

The organization of these cortical fibers have been found to be basically identical on several points in the cat and the monkey.
