はじめに

　アテトーゼもジストニーもその内容や定義は原典によく表現されている。しかし空間的にも時間的にも変化するこれら特異な現象を，文章やスチール写真から理解することはなかなかに難しい。しかも両者とも用語というものの持つ宿命が後にいろいろな誤解を招くことになった。

　アテトーゼという呼称はwithout fixed positionの意味でHammond（1871）により用いられ，現象をよく捉えた表現ではあるが，この呼称がその内容を十分に表現し切れているわけではない。一方，ジストニーという表現は緊張の異常という意味を持つに過ぎず，現象を示すというよりは観念的な名称であるので，用語が独り歩きして，いろいろな誤解を招いた。これらが今日の混乱の原因を成しているように思われる。さらに本稿では同様に理解されにくい舞踏アテトーゼについても言及する。

The definition and symptomatology of both athetosis and dystonia is well expressed in the original articles. But it is quite difficult to understand from the sentences or the still these particular phenomena. Until certain period athetosis and dystonia were conceived separately as they are. In Japan also were there precise descriptions about athetosis and dystonia. It seems that they have got thrown into chaos since the time when some consider the term dystonic as both the abnormal movement of the extremity called athetosis by Hammond and the abnormal posture in the proximal portions seen in torsion dystonia.
