緒言

　前立腺は，加齢とともにその大きさが変化することが知られている。近年，日本人の前立腺は，その生活様式の変化などから，形態が変化していると推測される。

　日本人の前立腺の経年的な重量および形態の変化については，剖検では1934年に斎藤の報告があるだけである。最近では超音波計測による報告があるが，今回われわれは，最近の剖検前立腺の重量，大きさ，尿道の長さについて，その経年的変化を検討した。

The prostate gland from Japanese with a total of 151 cases were obtained at autopsies conducted in 1983 and 1984 and was studied morphometrically for weight, size and the length of prostatic urethra per age group. There was continuous increase in weight of the prostate until and age of 40, up to 24.2grms. Over the age of 40, the weight was modified by the presence of hyperplastic nodules. In cases with the nodule, weight measured 47.5grms in average. In cases without the nodule, the weight remained unchanged from 40 to 80 years with an average weight of 25.6grms.
