　Thimerosal （Merthiolate）は1931年Waldo^1）により開発されて以来，その殺菌・防腐能力の優れていることから種々の方面に広く用いられており，日常診療においてもその殺菌消毒効果を期待して，積極的に創傷ならびに術前の皮膚消毒などの他，ワクチン類，抗原エキス，点眼・点鼻薬，あるいは皮膚外用薬の一部に混じられたものを無意識の中に使用することも多い。このようにかなり繁用されているものと推測されるにもかかわらず，従来副作用に接することはあまり多くなかつたように思われるが，ここ数年本剤による接触皮膚炎に遭遇する機会が多くなつた。

　今回これら症例のうち23例について臨床的見地から若干の検討を行なつたので，その成績を報告する。

Statistical and patch-test studies of thimerosal contact dermatitis in 23 cases for 5 years and 5 months from 1966 to May of 1971 were performed in the author's department. Almost all cases visited the department at first in 1969 and 1970, especially 70% of them in 1970. They were 4 to 73 years in age, and about 73% of the cases were over 31 in age. The number of male patients was slightly larger than that of female.

Results of the patch-tests with various concentrations of thimerosal solution, and patients' history of operation suggested that the dermatitis might be allergic.

Results of the patch-tests with several kinds of chemicals, showed that the most cases cross-reacted on those with thiosalicylate radical, while few did on those with mercury radical. Some cases cross-reacted on the chemicals with both radicals, and some reacted only on thimerosal itself.
