　はじめに

　頭頸部悪性腫瘍が頸部膿瘍の形で発症することは稀^1〜8）といわれている。

　今回われわれは，前頸部膿瘍を契機に発見された声門上型喉頭癌の1例を経験したので報告する。

A 74-year-old man was complaining of sudden dysp-nea and anterior neck swelling. Anterior neck abscess under the strap muscles was detected by CT. After drainage operation, neck swelling and inflammation were subsided.

But a swelling of the right false cord remained, and specimen obtained from this region for histological examination revealed squamous cell carcinoma. Radio-therapy followed by total laryngectomy was performed. Histological examination indicated that laryngeal tumor destructed the thyroid cartilage and invaded into pre-laryngeal tissue through this cartilage. These findings suggested that previous abscess formation was due to this laryngeal cancer. Because head and neck cancers accompanied with a neck abscess are rare, it may be dif-ficult to consider the possibility that cancer lies behind the neck abscess at the time of first examination.
