　長崎県五島列島での裂孔原性網膜剥離の発症と経過を検索した。1995年から2000年までの6年間に38名39眼が発症し，その頻度は人口11,932人あたり1名である。内訳は男性14名，女性24名であり，年齢は平均61.9歳で，50歳以上が84％を占めた。病型は狭義の裂孔原性網膜剥離29眼（74％）と黄斑円孔網膜剥離10眼（26％）である。地元医療施設から長崎市の最終医療機関に移送される間に，10眼（26％）で視力がさらに低下し，これは五島列島の郡部に居住する患者で有意に多かった。以上の所見は，離島に特有な年齢分布と生活環境が関係していると推定された。

We reviewed the incidence and progression of retinal detachment between 1995 to 2000 in Goto archipel-ago in Nagasaki Prefecture. Rhegmatogenous retinal detachment occurred in 39 eyes of 38 patients. The incidence was one patient among 11,932 inhabitants. The series comprised 14 males and 24 females, of which 84% were aged 50 years or over. Their ages averaged 61.9 years. There were 29 eyes (74%) of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment and 10 eyes (26%) of macular hole retinal detachment. All the patients were referred to institutions in the mainland. Dur-ing the interval of referral, the visual acuity deteriorated further in 10 patients (26%). This feature was more apprent in patients resident in less inhabited areas. The observed findings seemed to reflect the age distribution and environ-ment peculiar to remote islands.
