　臨床的にsclerocorneaと診断された1歳3か月男児の左眼に対し，眼球内容除去術を行い，摘出した角膜，強膜，前部ぶどう膜を組織学的に検討した。角膜周辺部では角膜内皮細胞およびデスメ膜（Descemet's membrane）の存在を認めたが，中央部においては欠損していた。シュレム管（canal of Schlemm）および線維柱帯は欠損していた。虹彩様組織が痕跡的に存在しており，その表面は水晶体側のみならず前房側も2重の色素上皮細胞により覆われていた。虹彩様組織の内部は平滑筋と血管で充満していた。一部で角膜と虹彩様組織の解離不全が認められ，その接合部にデスメ膜の存在を認めた。

We performed histopathological studies in an eye of a 15-month male infant with sclerocornea. Light and electron microscopy showed the presence of corneal endothelium and Descemet's membrane in the peripheral cornea and their absence in the central cornea. Canal of Schlemm and trabecular meshwork were absent. The iris was present in rudimentary state with a double-layered pigment epithelium layer covering both the posterior and anterior surfaces. This rudimentary iris contained smooth muscles and vessels. It showed incomplete dissociation from the cornea bridged by Descemet's membrane at the junction.
