　眼部帯状疱疹は，三叉神経第1枝領域の皮疹を伴い，種々の眼症状を呈する水痘帯状疱疹ウイルス感染症であるが，今回我々は皮疹を伴わず両眼性の角膜炎を生じた非定型的症例を経験した．抗水痘帯状疱疹ウイルスモノクローナル抗体を用いて角膜炎の原因が水痘帯状疱疹ウイルスであることを確認できた．本症のような非定型例においては，モノクローナル抗体を用いた免疫螢光法は，診断に有用であった．

A 43-year-old female presented with recurrent bilat-eral keratitis involving the peripheral corneal area. The patient was free of history of skin rash in the face innervated by the trigeminal nerve.

We examined the epithelial cells of the affected cornea by scraping with a cotton swab. We applied indirect immunofluorescent antibody technique using monoclonal antibody to varicella zoster virus. We obtained positive findings 3 times from 4 specimens obtained at different occasions. The corneal lesions were thus ascertained to he due to infection by varicella zoster virus.

Immunofluorescent antibody technique using mono-clonal antibody is considered to be of value in the diagnosis of atypical herpes zoster keratitis without skin rash.
