　和歌山県北部の人口66万8千人の地域で，1979年から5年間に，網膜剥離の手術を行っていた3施設で，合計345名357眼の裂孔原性網膜剥離を経験した．

（1）発生率は人口10万人当たり年平均10.33となった．年による発生率は8.42から11.64となったが，5％の危険率で有意な差はみられなかった．

（2）無水晶体眼性のものは13.4％，外傷性のものは9.6％となり，黄斑円孔によるものは10.9％となった．

（3）年齢階級別の発生頻度を調べると，男性では，最高60歳台の49.1人，女性では65歳台の37.4となった．

（4）50歳未満では4.93,50歳以上では25.35となった．

（5）外傷性を除いた特発性のものは，全体で9.39となり，イスラエルの報告と差はなかった．

（6）人口構成より補正すると，和歌山県北部の裂孔原性網膜剥離の発生頻度は，人口10万人当たり9.79，特発性のものは8.76となった．

We assessed the incidence of rhgematogenous retinal detachment in the northern part of Waka-yama Prefecture during a 5-year period (1979-1983). Out of a population of 668,000 in this area, a total of 345 patients developed rhegmato-genous retinal detachment during this period,i.e. at the rate of 10.33 patients for 100,000 per annum. There was no significant differences in the yearly incidence during the period. Out of the total rhgmatogenous retinal detachment, 13.6% were aphakic, 9.6% were trauma-induced and 10.9%, were macular hole cases. The incidence of rhge-matogenous retinal detachment was 4.93 for those under 50 years of age, and 25.35 for those aged 50 years or more.
