606名，1,077正常眼の硝子体を細隙灯顕微鏡法により観察し次の結果を得た。
（1）硝子体の剥離率は，加齢とともに8％（40歳代），22％（50歳代），43％（60歳代），71％（70歳代），85％（80歳代）と上昇する。
（2）40歳未満における後硝子体剥離は451眼中わずか1眼で，これは例外的なものと見なされる。
（3）男女差はなく，剥離は右眼に先行する傾向があり，剥離率は左眼より右眼がわずかに高い。
（4）完全後硝子体剥離率と部分硝子体剥離率はそれぞれ21％と2％で，後者は前者の約1／10と比率が小さい。
（5）正常眼の硝子体剥離は上象限から起り，下象限へとひろがる。
（6）増殖型糖尿病性網膜症を例にとり，部分硝子体剥離の頻度について正常眼との比較を行ったところ，前者では有意に高いことが証明された。
The vitreous body was biomicroscopically studied in 1077 normal eyes of 606 normal patients. The following results were obtained.
(1) The incidence of posterior vitreous detach-ment (PVD) increased significantly (p<0.01) with age except in the eighth and ninth decades of life (p>0.1) : 8% in patients in their forties, 22% in their fifties, 43% in their sixties, 71% in their seventies, and 85% in their eighties.
(2) Of 451 eyes in patients less than 40 years of age, only one eye exhibited PVD.
(3) There was no significant difference in PVD incidence between the two sexes.
