　裂孔原性網膜剥離の発症を時系列事象とみなし，発症年齢をワイブル分布関数を用いて解析した。208症例を観察資料として発症年齢を求め，一般人口構成を参照して年齢別発症率を計算した。ワイブル確率紙を用いて解析すると，発症は特性値を異にする二つのワイブル分布関数の混合で記述されることが発見された。いずれも摩耗型故障を示したが，一方は約30歳に平均を有しばらつきが多く，かつ約8歳まで無故障期間をもつ分布であり，他方は約60歳に平均を有するばらつきの少ない分布であった。この結果から，裂孔原性網膜剥離は発症機構成立の時間経過を異にする，少なくとも二つの故障病態から構成されると結論された。

The age at onset of rhegmatogenous retinal de-tachment in 208 patients was studied, and an age-specific onset of the disease was estlmated by refer-ring to appropriate vital statistics. The cumu1ativefrequency of the estimate was plotted on a Weibulldistribution chart, and as a result it was evidentthat the data can befittted well by a linear summa-tion of two Weibull distributions, referred to as J-and S-distribution. A common feature to the twodistributions was catastrophic or worn-out innature, but there were significant differences invarious paramcters between the two distributions.
