緒　言

　強膜炎は通常前部に起り，後部には稀である。

　1902年FuchsがSclcritis Posteriorとして一症例の臨床報告をして以来^1），今日まで70余例の報告があり^{2〜4，23）}，わが国においても，1907年の河本の症例以後^5），7例の報告がみられる^6〜10）。

A 56-year old female developed recurrent attacksof conjunctival congestion in the right eye simulating anterior scleritis of allergic nature. While the con-dition promptly reacted to topical and systemic corticosteroid initially, intractable ocular pain, deterioration of vision and exudative retinal detach-ment ultimately set in. The eye had to be enucleated to relieve the severe pain.

Histopathological studies showed hyperplastic inflammation of the posterior sclera involving the entire choroid and the ciliary body. The condition was apparently of rheumatoid arthritic origin.
