　Cryo-surgeryが進歩し，特に白内障の冷凍嚢内摘出法（cryoextraction）が一般化してきている。従来嚢内摘出術は嚢外摘出術にくらべ高度の技術を要し，また危険度が高いといわれていたが，冷凍手術法の発展や器械器具の改良で比較的容易に，しかも安全に全摘出術を行なうことができるようになつたためと思う。

　白内障全摘出術を冷凍法で行なう場合，術中術後の偶発事故に出遇うことなく，円滑に行なうためには，眼圧の制御と瞳孔を適当な大きさに保つことが必要であるとされているが，著者はこれに加えて虹彩リトラクターの適応なものを選ぶことが存外重要であると考える。

For the success of cryoextraction of the cata-ractous lens, it is essential that a suitable iris rector is at hand.

A forceps-type iris retractor was designed to cover the disadvantages of the current retrac-tors that are difficult to manipulate while atte-mpting to disengage them from the iris because of their narrow width and strong curvature.

The new retractor of the author has been improved in the following features. It has small triangular projections (0.8mm×1.3mm) laterally on the both trips and has a control screw at the center of its grip to adjust the width of the tips. The retractor can be applied to any pupil size.
