緒言
小児，特に乳児の涙道疾患（主に先天性鼻涙管閉鎖）については，成書にも記載され，一般にもよく知られていてこと新しくのべ立てるほどのものでもない。しかし，すぐれた綜説記事には出会つても，多数の治験例に立つての考察は案外少ない。成書に記載された事項も必ずしも正確でなく，あいまいな記載や，誤りに近い記載も見うけられる。一方，実地医家のこの疾患の取り扱いに至つては，はなはだ消極的である。消極的にすぎることは，誤つた治療と言わざるを得ない。
これらのことは，この疾患の症状，原因，治療がいたつて単純であるだけに，かえつて残念である。
A statistical investigation was carried out on the cases of atresia of the naso-lacrimal ducts of children over the past three years.
1. Examination of lacrimal duct drainage was performed on every children suffering from epiphora and secretion.
2. 135 cases of the disease were picked up out of 12,120 patients (1.1%)-that is 20% of all the diseases under one-year-old children.
3. This disease appeared two times in male children than in female.
4. This disease was observed in almost equal frequency in either eye.
5. 35 cases (26% of this disease) were affect-ed bilaterally.
