I．緒言

　眼球突出は種々の原因により起つて来るので，眼科医のみならず，他の臨床医にとつても興味ある問題を含んでいる。眼球突出の原因を見つけることは容易ではないが，視力更には生命さえも脅かすことがあるから，速かに診断を下し，適切な処置をすることが望まれる。

　著者は，昭和31年から昭和35年迄の5年間に，神戸医大眼科外来を訪れた患者の眼球突出症例について分類観察し，興味ある結果を得たので，ここに報告する。

The statistical investigation was attempted on the cases of exophthalmos of outpatients in our clinic over the past 5 years (from 1956 to 1960). The exophthalmos existed in the ra-tio (0.65%) of 215 cases to 32959 outpatients.

The main causes of exophthalmos were neo-plastic (40.9%), inflammatory (23.3%) and thyrotoxic (13.0%) origin.

In the exophthalmos caused by inflamma-tion, the disturbance of eyemovement and vision became severer in proportion to the g-rade of exophthalmos. In the exophthalmos caused by hyperthyroidism, the eyemoveme-nt and vision showed slight disturbance reg-ardless to the grade of exophthalmos.
