A retrospective survey was made on the po-stoperative course following cataract surgery during the 9-year period (1961-1969). A total of 1,726 cataract surgery was conducted during that period, out of which 1, 189 eyes were senile cataract.

Rupture of the lens capsule during surgery resulted in a very significantly frequent prola-pse of the vitreous. Secondary glaucoma develop-ed in 6.1% of eyes with prolapse of the vit-reous as against 2.5% of eyes in which the surgery was done eventless.

Detachment of the choroid occurred in 3.3%.
