緒言

　未熟児網膜症に対する認識が高まるとともに，本邦においても，未熟児管理に眼科医が加わる機会が多くなつてきたが，いまだ外来を訪れる重症瘢痕症例は少なくない。

　本症の治療に関する従来の報告には，薬物療法，酸素療法などがあるが，いずれも適確なものとはいいがたかつた。ところが，1968年永田ら^1）が，本症の活動期病変に対して，光凝固術を行ない頓挫的に病勢を停止させるという画期的な治療法を報告して以来，本邦においては，本症に対する光凝固術が有効な方法として急速に普及しつつある。

Cryocautery was tried in 8 cases of premature retinopathy who were in the active stage 3 (Owens) and hopeless to spontaneous regression.Cryo-tip of Amoils cryo pencil unit was applied on the sclera transconjunctivally adjacent to the areas of exsudative lines or the newly formed vessels extending into the vitreous under the indirect ophthalmoscopy. The conditioning of the temperature is about -60℃ and appli-cation time is 6 to 8 seconds. It's not necessary to try the cryocautery to the whole areas of the exsudative lines or the heaped up new vessels, but only a few places of the cryospots were available for the treatment.
