緒言

　私は先に健康人結膜嚢内に嫌気性菌と好気性菌とがほぼ同菌数で共存，常在していることを明らかにし^1），またこれら一部は結膜炎，涙嚢炎，睫毛眼瞼縁炎，麦粒腫など眼科領域感染症の起炎菌にもなりうるであろうと推定した^2）。

　ところで，嫌気性菌が前眼部感染症と因果関係にあると考えられる症例はClostridium perfrin—gensによる原発性の結膜炎（Henkind, P．＆Fedukowicz,H．^3）），Clostridium tetani　による角膜潰瘍（Tsutsui^4）），穿孔性眼外傷に続いて発症したClostridium perfringensによる慢性涙嚢炎（Beneditti^5））などが報告されているにすぎない。このように少ない理由は嫌気性菌の検索が好気性菌の検索に比べて困難であることと，何か発症せしめ難い条件があるためかと思われる。

Twenty patients with various affections in the cornea, conjunctiva or the lacrimal passage have been examined as to the bacterial flora with particular attention to the anaerobes. As regards the incidence or population of bacterial organism in the conjunctival sac, there was no essential difference between the tested subjects and normal controls. Further, the identified ana-erobes were similar in kind and in drug sensi-tivity as in normals.

The findings indicate that infections in the anterior eye segment might be caused by or-ganisms which are physiologically present in the conjunctival sac under favorable circumstances.
