最近，弓削教授が眼科専門医の教育と題して述べられておられますが，相当数手術をされ，高度の御教育をなさつておられるように拝見し，私ごとき者が申し上げては何ですが，感服致しました。
私の記憶では，専門医制度は約10年程前に案が出され，医師国家試験に合格した上に，さらに大学附属病院，或いはそれに準ずる官公立病院などで，60単位以上の単位をとり（1ヵ月1単位として5〜6年，開業医の場合は1ヵ月0.3単位），さらに筆記試験と，手術などの実地試験を合格した者に与えるというような事であつたと思います。ただし，この制度が法案を通過して2〜3年間は，従来の眼科医師で，60単位以上の単位を取得したと認められる者は，無試験で資格を与えられるというようにも聞いていました。
The present chaotic situation about specta-cle and contact lens dispensing in Japan is described and, as conclusion, a proposal is put forward to train and furnish with specific titles specialist oculists who have mastered optometric practice including contact lens fitting. The present level of optometric training practised in medical schools for post-graduates is, according to the view of the author, is far too insufficient.
The system of optometrist-ophthalmologist as a specialty in ophthalmology has to stay as a separate one even after optometry will be acknowledged as specialty in time to come.
