（6）周辺性角膜上皮層炎（仮称）に就て

Epithelitis corneae mariginalis

　角膜は一粍内外の薄い膜ではあるが，発生上は外胚葉性の上皮，中胚葉性の内被細胞，間質細胞からなる実質，角膜原線維からなるボーマン氏膜内被細胞からなるデスメ氏膜といつた具合に非常に多様性であり，神経は実質層内と上皮層下とで神経網を，辺縁部では神経叢を作り，主には眼神経からのものであるが，一部は顔面神経から来る植物神経が，上皮層下の神経網に加わり，非常に神経に富み且何れも無髄であり，その上血管も淋巴管もなくて唯細胞間隙あるのみといつた全身でも特異な存在で，而も前は涙液，後は房水に漬つて居り，外界からは色々な刺戟を受け易い所にある。

　従つて体内，体外からの色々な原因で侵され，而もその所見たるや全く千種万様であるが，薮に報告せんとするものは，河本先生（1918）が「トラコーマ」患者で，次で鮫島氏（1929），浅沼氏（1929），鹿児島一内田氏（1933）等が癩患者で見られているものと酷似し，倉知氏（1926），牧内氏（1935），大山，清沢氏（1950），岩田義明氏（1951）等の報告とも似た様に思われるもので，必ず日常臨床で経驗されていると思うが，此を何と取扱つて居られるか御教示を願いたいと思つて述べる次第である。患者は昭和27年以降2カ年10カ月間新患約一万五千中私自身観察した57例である。

This disease is charachterized by a tiny dot which is a faint polygonal or pointed opacity coming into line in the epithelium corneae only, often arranged in the upper margin jnst as in the arcus.

The surface is smooth, normal sensation, neither vascularisation nor taking the stain.

This is most frequently observed under the age of 30 years, in a case of normal eye and conjunctivitis, also trachoma. But no subjective symptom and complication.

The pathologic changes occur in the epithelium, consist essentially of swelling and vacuole forming of the cell,in the conjunctiva, of slight enlargement of bloodvessel,fibrinoid change of vessel wall and growth of fibroblasten in the propria.

Thus the signs may suggest an allergic nature of the process.
