　乳幼児及び小児の眼科手術の場合，従来エーテル吸入麻酔，アヴエルチン又はプロタチン直腸麻酔，エビパンナトリウムの静注麻酔等による全身麻酔が行われて来たが，最近エビパンナトリウムやラボナールの筋注による方法が利用され出し，眼科では既に馬詰教授の紹介がある。我教室でもラボナール筋注に依る全身麻酔を試みて良好な成績を得たのでここに略述して諸賢の御批判を仰ぐ次第である。因に，余の用いたラボナールはバルビツール系藥物に属し，米国藥局法にPentothal-Naとして記載されている麻酔剤で，田辺製藥より発売されているものである。

For Surgical procedures on the eyes in infants and children whose ages ranged from 6 months to 6 years, the author employs Ravonal (Sodium Pentothal) for general anesthesia. This type of anesthesia, unlike open ether, does not interfere with essential work about the eyes. The course is smooth and it is relatively safe and free from side effects during and after the procedure. Ravonal is made up into 2.5 percent solution with physiological saline as solvent. This agent is given intramuscularly into the gluteal muscles in divided doses of 5,5, and 3cc with interval of 5 minutes between each of them.
