  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

A report was made on a case, 49-year old female, who developed psychosis dyskinesia complex (Cele-sia) during the treatment of Parkinsonism with 1-Dopa. The patient had the history of measles encephalitis, and showed neurologically a hemi-parkinsonism of the left half of the body. In the course of treatment by 1-Dopa starting with a dose of 200 mg/day and increasing doses, when the dose per day reached, 2, 400 mg the patient sud-denly fell into psychotic state characterized by psy-chomotor excitement, anxiety and confusion, showed generalized muscle hypotonia, with choreatic move-ment of the face, tongue and finger muscles, as well as severe thirst. This unique 'Symptome complex' appeared within a relatively short time after commencing Dopa treatment, about the time when Dopa therapeutic effects on Parkinsonism appeared, but this symptom was quickly overcome by decreasing the dose of Dopa or by current administration of pyridoxine. It was also confirmed that readministration of Dopa would induce again this symptom complex.

Clinical characteristics, incidence and patho-physiology of this syndoome were discussed while referring to the reported cases in the literature.
