  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

Although diminishing in frequency, primary thrombosis of the dural sinus is still one of the causes of troublesome cerebrovascular disorder.

They usually occur in the superior longitudinal sinus. Less common are in the transverse, sigmoid and Galenic system.

There have been five such cases seen in our service for past 7 years. The following cases pre-sented characteristic features of the primary throm-bosis of the dural sinus.

Case I. Woman aged 26 years, suffered from headacke with papilledema and diplopia 3 days after delivery. Angiographic demonstration of destrac-tion of the superior longitudinal sinus and partial stenosis of the rt transvers sinus.

Case 2 Girl aged 13 years, subjected to conscious disturbance, convulsive seizure and rt hemiparesis. Angiographic failure to fill the superior longitudinal sinus.

Case 3. Youg man aged 23 years with clinical manifestation of convulsive seizure, conscious dis-turbance and rt hemiplegia. Arteriography showed superior sinus occlusion.

Case 4. A Youg girl of 19 with several years history of unconscious spell, presented with headacke and nystagmoid jerk. Investigation showed the superior longitudinal and transverse sinus occluded at the confruence.

Case 5. Woman aged 13 years, episodic uncon-scious spell and vomitting. Arteriography revieled thrombosis of the superior longitudinal sinus. In this report, we have traced our precent day concept of intracranial venous sinus thrombosis.
