緒言
過去21年間（昭和14年〜34年）に京大外科第一講座に入院した脳膿瘍患者24例について手術術式と治療成績を中心とした考察を行つたので報告する。24例はすべて脳実質内膿瘍であつて，脳結核腫，脳ジストマ症等は含まれていない。
A series of consecutive patients with veri-fied intraparenchymatous abscess of the brain was reviewed.
Headache, vomiting, seizure, and motor disturbance were the common complaints in order of frequency.
In 18 out of 22 patients in which the cere-brospinal fluid was examined, some abnorm-alities such as positive globulin reaction, pleo-cytosis, and the increased pressure, were found.
One patient recovered completely after in-tensive antibiotic therapy without surgery. 19 of 24 patients were subjected to some sur-gical procedures which covered primary extir-pation of abscess, tapping of abscess and mere exploratory craniotomy. It was not certain which procedure was the most recom-mendable in our series.
Disturbance of consciousness on admission or just prior to operation was the most seri-ous prognostic sign.
