緒言

　近時，前帯状回・後眼窩野・側頭葉前部・海馬回・海馬回鈎などが，所謂visceral brain （Pool，1954^9））として，自律神経系の諸現象，例えば心臓血管系の諸変化，咀嚼，唾液分泌，流涙，胃腸運動，呼吸運動，膀胱機能などと極めて関係が深いことがみとめられてきた。

　われわれはこれらの領域の各種の疾患，或は脳外科的侵襲によつて惹起される種々の変化について観察してきた。この中で脳下垂体及びその近傍の疾患において，前頭葉後眼窩野に対して侵襲が加えられた場合に，心搏数にかなりはつきりした影響がみられることを知つた。以下われわれの扱つた多くの臨床例について調査した結果を述べてみたいと思う。

Bradycardia was frequently observed at the time of neurosurgical intervention against the posterior orbital area of the frontal lobe (transfrontal craniotomy). Therefore, 230 neurosurgical cases in which lesions were localized in the posterior orbital area and chiasmal region, were statistically studied. According to the result of the study, it has been known that the posterior orbital area has also a close relationship with the cardio-vascular system as a part of the so-called "visceral brain."

Furthermore, in a case of glioma of the posterior orbital area of the frontal lobe marked extrasystole which completely dis-appeared by the removal of the tumor, was observed by the author.
