　I．　INTRODUCTION

　Recently, techniques of surgical operations and anesthesia have been progressed so remarkably that it seems very difficult to find out a place where surgical hands cannot reach within living human body. Neverthe—less, in many cases, the more effective therapy can be performed with more favo—rable prognosis by lowering the level of tissue metabolsm properly^{1）54）82）90）}. About ten years have been passed since the hypothermia was attended as one of the methods for this purpose.
