Myocardial citrate metabolism was studied in seven healthy individuals and fourty-onepatients including hypertensives, coronary-sclerotics, cardiac failures, anemics and thyrotoxics, by coronary sinus catheterization technic.
Disturbance of the citrate metabolism manifested by decreased or negative coro-nary a-v difference was discovered in most of them, especially in hypertensives with ST-T change, coronary sclerotics and cardiac failures.
Improvement of myocardial citrate meta-bolism is achieved by inhalation of high oxygen, antihypertensive drugs (in hyperten-sives) and coronary dilating drugs (nitrogly-cerine and papaverine).
Theophylline-ethylendiamine may increase myocardial hypoxia.
Myocardial hypoxia is provoked by norepinephrine and epinephrine.
